Back for Year Seven: HAI Group’s Risk Management Conference Returns Nov. 6

  • September 29, 2025

We’re back for year seven! HAI Group’s seventh annual virtual Risk Management Conference returns Thursday, Nov. 6, with another powerful lineup of sessions tailored for public and affordable housing professionals. Whether you’re managing everyday risks or planning for the unexpected, this free virtual event will equip you with practical strategies and insights to protect your organization and the communities you serve.

What’s new for 2025?

Each year, attendees walk away with actionable strategies, real-world examples, and a stronger understanding of how to manage risk more effectively. Last year’s conference set a record with nearly 700 registrants and covered topics such as:

  • Mold and asbestos mitigation
  • Pest management strategies
  • Roofing risks and management
  • Cybersecurity
  • Hot topics in fair housing

A survey of attendees from last year’s event highlighted ease of registration, session topics, and the virtual environment as the elements they appreciated most. All respondents said they would recommend the event to their peers.

Elizabeth Owens, Director of Risk Control and Consulting at HAI Group, said this year’s program builds on that momentum, focusing on business continuity and crisis response.

“We’re diving into timely topics that matter most to housing organizations—from natural disaster preparedness to business continuity to cybersecurity,” she said.

This year’s agenda includes sessions on:

  • Natural disaster statistics and scenarios
  • Business continuity planning basics
  • A business continuity plan in action (panel discussion)
  • Post-event recovery and strategy
  • Responding to a cyber incident

“Attendees can expect to walk away with a clear understanding of the wide range of risks their organizations may face. From natural disasters to manmade crises, and why having a current, well-developed business continuity plan is essential," said Mary Ciccaglione, Assistant Director of Risk Control and Consulting. "Through sessions led by industry professionals, they'll gain actionable insights for navigating emergencies and enhancing resilience. The conference is designed to deliver real-world tips that housing organizations can use to strengthen preparedness and response efforts."

Who should attend?

This year’s conference is especially relevant for housing agency decision-makers, such as:

  • Executive directors
  • Risk managers
  • Property managers

Anyone focused on operations, safety, or compliance will benefit from the practical guidance and knowledgeable perspectives offered throughout the event.

Adam Ragsdale, a 2024 conference attendee from Missoula Housing Authority, said he appreciates the effort that HAI Group puts into the annual event.

“I signed up with an eye toward the cybersecurity risk management session but found myself really enjoying all of the topics that were covered,” Ragsdale said. “There were several pearls of wisdom I was able to share with my team. Not only did [the conference] cover a wide range of topics, but the speakers were engaging and encouraged participation with the audience. Let’s be honest, sometimes virtual meetings can be noise in the background—this has never been the case with the HAI Group virtual risk management conferences!”
