Get Ready for Fire Prevention Week With HAI Group’s Poster Contest and Resources

  • August 5, 2026

Every October, Fire Prevention Week provides housing organizations with an opportunity to educate residents about fire safety and encourage conversations that can help prevent injuries and save lives.

This year's National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) theme, Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower, focuses on everyday charging habits that help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires. From phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools, lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices residents use every day. Understanding how to charge them safely is an important part of fire prevention.

To support your Fire Prevention Week activities, we're inviting HAI Group members to participate in our annual Fire Safety Poster Contest and sharing helpful HAI Group and NFPA resources.

Inspire young residents through HAI Group's Fire Safety Poster Contest

FPW-Social2026The application period for HAI Group's annual Fire Safety Poster Contest is now open, offering member organizations a great opportunity to engage with young residents and educate their communities on fire safety.

Held in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, the contest encourages children and teens to create posters inspired by this year's theme, Safe Charging Is a Superpower, while reinforcing important fire safety messages.

Participating HAI Group members may be reimbursed for prize money awarded to contest winners, and every participant receives a certificate recognizing their creativity and participation.

Organizations can use the contest to:

  • Reinforce Fire Prevention Week lessons
  • Encourage conversations about fire safety at home
  • Recognize young residents for their creativity
  • Build community engagement through a fun educational activity

To participate, submit your registration by Friday, September 11, 2026. Additional contest guidelines and prize information are available in the registration materials.

FPW26_Tip_SheetThe NFPA's Fire Prevention Week Tip Sheet provides guidance residents can use to safely charge and care for lithium-ion battery-powered devices.

The tip sheet includes reminders to:

  • Use the charger that comes with the device or one approved by the manufacturer.
  • Charge devices on a hard, flat surface.
  • Unplug devices after they are fully charged.
  • Stop using batteries that become damaged or overheat.
  • Keep charging areas clear of combustible materials.

Consider sharing the tip sheet in resident newsletters, posting it in common areas, including it in welcome packets, or distributing it during Fire Prevention Week events.
